Antimicrobial for Textiles and Surfaces:
Inhibits growth and odor from Bacteria, Mold, Mildew and Fungi
For almost two hundred years, scientists have known that microorganisms cannot live on the surface of snow crab shells, but could not identify the growth deterrent. We now know that the substance is chitin, a biopolymer produced in the shells of crabs and shrimp.
These shells are processed to yield pure chitin for commercial use. Chitin is further processed to create Chitosan. Bac-Shield™ is Chitosan evenly suspended in a weak organic acid solution.
When Bac-Shield™ is diluted in water and applied to textiles or other materials an enhanced product is created that impedes the growth of odor-causing bacteria, fungi, mold and mildew. Drying the treatment with heat can bond Bac-Shield™ to the product creating an antimicrobial effect durable to repeated washings.
Bac-Shield™ can be applied by wiping, hand spraying or fogging, in public areas, hallways, non-food contact surfaces, guest rooms, gyms, locker areas, athletic facilities, theaters, casinos, cars, and busses as a pro-active solution to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi.
Bac-Shield™ is intended as a treatment to give antibacterial and antifungal protection to treated materials. Bac-Shield WS4 inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold, mildew and fungi that cause odor, discoloration, decay and deterioration of the treated materials.
Bac-Shield™ WS4 has been tested on various textiles, and shown to be effective against many odor causing organisms including staphylococcus Aureus, Trichophyton Mentagrophytes and Klebiella Pneumoniae, according to AATCC and ASTM textile industry standard test procedures. Testing on specific textile substrates is required to determine effectiveness against specific organisms on those substrates.
Bac-Shield™ has not been tested according to rigorous EPA guidelines for human health pathogens as a disinfectant, sterilant, or sanitizer. This information should not be construed as a claim to prevent the transmittance of infectious diseases.
